Sheriff: Deputy Omar Ursin was murdered by two suspects who were out on bond for prior murder charges

Two suspects, Ashim Taylor Jr, and Jayland Womack, were arrested and booked into Harris County Jail today, suspected and charged with murdering Pct. 3 Deputy Omar Ursin on Madera Run Pkwy in The Groves neighborhood of Atascocita, Texas, a suburb of Houston last month.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, both suspects were out on bond for separate murder charges prior to the killing of Pct. 3 Deputy Omar Ursin.

Pct. 3 Deputy Omar Ursin was killed when on his way home after picking up food for his family on August 28, 2022, around 6:30 p.m. The shooting was believed to have started in front of West Lake Middle School near the Timber Forest and Madera Run Pkwy.

At the time, police did not have leads other than the suspects were believed to be driving a dark-colored, newer model sedan with tinted windows.

A call was put out for residents in the Groves area to review their security camera footage in hopes of getting a better description of the vehicle and/or suspects.

Deputy Omar Ursin was found in his personal vehicle in a median on Madera Run Pkwy. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away due to his injuries.

Local residents made a makeshift memorial in the median where his vehicle was found after the shooting.
