HPD: One in custody, two others wanted for shooting of two men in Heights Neighborhood of Houston

According to the Houston Police Department, on January 27, 2022, two men, James Gerald Martin III, and Dana Ryssdal, were fatally shot at 1713 West T.C. Jester Boulevard in Houston, Texas. Police have arrested one of the suspects and are now searching for two others shown below.

On March 16, 2023, charges were filed against one suspect who was arrested and two others who are still being sought in connection with the murders. Polie Phan and Jaidan Vu Nguyen are both charged with capital murder in the 262nd State District Court. They are still at large, and the police are urging anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers. Kathy Vu, the third suspect, has been charged with tampering with evidence and was arrested on March 16.

The investigation started when police responded to a welfare check at Martin’s residence and found Ryssdal suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ryssdal was pronounced dead at the scene. Martin and his white Dodge Ram truck were missing from the residence. The truck was found abandoned on January 30 in the 6900 block of Cullen Boulevard. Detectives recovered another vehicle at the T.C. Jester residence, and a man’s body was found inside it on February 1. The man was identified as James Martin, and his death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy was conducted.

The investigation revealed that the murders occurred on January 26. The police identified Phan and Nguyen as suspects in the murders of Martin and Ryssdal. The case remains under investigation, and the police are asking anyone with additional information to come forward. The motive for the murders is not known at this time.
