Houston, TX, May 13, 2023 – The Houston Police Department (HPD) is actively investigating a homicide that took place early this morning on Beverly Hills Street.
The victim, an adult male believed to be in his mid-twenties, was picked up by the Houston Fire Department at a psychiatric hospital off Hillcroft. Initially, friends of the victim, after he was shot, drove him to the psychiatric facility, mistaking it for a general hospital.
“The nurses tried to help him out, worked on him a little bit,” said Lt. Willkens of HPD. “After he got there, they transported him to the local hospital.” However, despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting happened while the victim was sitting in a car with a woman he had met. The woman’s ex-boyfriend reportedly confronted the victim, leading to an altercation that ended in gunfire. The victim was reportedly shot once in the torso.
“We’re being told that the ex-boyfriend shot him after they started fighting,” Lt. Willkens revealed. “We’re hopeful we’ll be able to identify the suspect soon.”
The HPD is urging the suspect to turn himself in. “If not, we’ll go find him,” Lt. Willkens assured. As the investigation proceeds, the Houston PD is appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
