Video: Driver arrested after crashing car into Houston home, causing a fire

HOUSTON (June 30, 2023) — A motorist was hospitalized following a vehicular crash into a house that resulted in a fire in Houston, fire officials said.

The incident happened around 9:43 p.m. on Friday, June 30, at Chimney Rock Road at Olympia Drive, according to Houston Fire Department.

The driver crashed their car into a garage, igniting a fire that spread to another vehicle within the garage and to the garage structure itself. Firefighters responded within five minutes of the incident and attacked the fire, ventilating the roof of the garage in the process. The blaze was successfully extinguished without extending into the home, though significant smoke damage was reported.

The estimated damage from the fire is $155,000, while firefighters managed to save property worth an estimated $855,000. The Houston Police Department took the driver into custody. The driver was evaluated on the scene and then transported to a local hospital by HFD Emergency Medical Services.

The incident has been deemed accidental, and HFD Arson investigators have been requested to the scene. A total of 28 personnel responded to the incident, including firefighters from Stations 28, 60, 3, and 2.
