Aminah Gardner, a 57-year-old rideshare driver, was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash while changing her tire on the Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 2.
According to reports from the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, Gardner had pulled onto the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the freeway and was in the process of changing her tire when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Paramedics pronounced Gardner deceased at the scene.
The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is described as white and was found to be missing a side mirror, which was recovered at the crash site.
