19-Year-Old Charged in Fatal Shooting on Almeda Genoa Road; One Dead, One Wounded

HOUSTON, Texas, Aug. 18 – A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that left one man dead and a woman wounded. The incident took place on Almeda Genoa Road at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13, according to Houston police.

Trevon Demas is charged with the murder of 29-year-old Donald James and the wounding of an adult female. Charges were filed in the 176th State District Court. Demas was taken into custody at the Harris County Joint Processing Center on Wednesday, Aug. 17, while surrendering on a separate felony charge.

Houston police reported that Mr. James had been arguing with a female outside a bar when an unknown male suspect approached and shot him. James was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics. A female bystander, whose age is estimated to be in her 20s or 30s, was struck in the arm by the gunfire. She was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Further investigation led to the identification of Demas as the suspect. While he was surrendering for a separate charge, HPD detectives questioned him, leading to the subsequent murder charge in relation to the Almeda Genoa Road shooting. The investigation continues.
