Chase ends after police shoot at man who stole girlfriend’s vehicle

HOUSTON, TEXAS, August 25, 2023 – An officer-involved shooting occurred today at the Urban Palms Apartments, located at 8701 Town Park. The incident, involving a domestic disturbance, fortunately resulted in no injuries, according to Houston Police Department authorities.

West Side Division officers initially responded to a 4 a.m. call concerning a dispute between a man and his girlfriend. Upon arriving, officers found that the couple had engaged in an argument while the woman was attempting to remove personal items from the residence. The male suspect discharged several shots into the air before fleeing the scene in an older model Honda Accord, which belonged to his girlfriend.

Officers returned to the area around 9 p.m. and located the stolen Honda Accord at the 2900 block of Rogerdale. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect evaded officers, resulting in a brief vehicle pursuit. The chase ended at the Urban Palms Apartments’ parking lot, where the suspect attempted to flee on foot.

Due to earlier reports indicating that the suspect was potentially armed with a long rifle and had discharged his firearm in the morning, officers considered him armed and dangerous. During the foot chase, an officer observed the suspect reaching toward his waistband and discharged his weapon once. The bullet went through an apartment window but did not result in any injuries. The suspect subsequently surrendered and is currently in custody.
