HOUSTON, TEXAS, Sept. 22, 2023 – A chaotic scene unfolded at a southeast Houston house party early Sunday morning, where a drive-by shooting left a man and a woman injured and a separate vehicle crash occurred, according to the Houston Police Department.
The shooting took place at approximately 12:15 a.m. in the 1200 block of Vera Lou Street. Unknown suspects in a vehicle opened fire on a crowd at the house party and then fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, officers initiated a chase involving a suspicious vehicle, which ended in a crash. Two men were taken into custody. Authorities are working to determine if these suspects were involved in the earlier shooting.
Separately, another crash occurred at the house party when a partygoer attempted to leave the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have been intoxicated. Police conducted field sobriety tests, and the driver was being processed at the scene for a DWI.
The victims of the shooting, who are 18 and 21 years old, were taken to the hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. Their names have not been released.
Detectives are currently gathering surveillance footage from the area to aid in the ongoing investigation of the shooting and subsequent events.
