Fire at Cedar Mill Apartment Complex in Sharpstown Likely Caused by Candle

SHARPSTOWN, HOUSTON, TEXAS – A fire broke out in the Cedar Mills Apartment Complex in Sharpstown, Houston, on December 9, 2023. According to the Houston Fire Department, the incident occurred at 7200 Clarewood Dr., 77036, at around 4:05 a.m., causing estimated damage of $110,000. However, $590,000 in property was saved, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes and found smoke and fire coming from an apartment unit. They conducted an offensive attack and a primary search, successfully extinguishing the fire and containing it to the first floor. The utilities were controlled, and the units were ventilated.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unintentional, likely starting from a lit candle catching a nearby curtain on fire. The American Red Cross was requested for the residents. A total of 35 personnel from various stations responded to the incident.
