HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – December 23, 2023 – An off-duty deputy, working as a security officer at District 249 Bar & Grill in northwest Harris County, shot a man overnight, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The incident occurred after 1 a.m. in the bar’s parking lot, located off the Tomball Parkway, south of the Grand Parkway.
Sheriff Gonzalez reported that a fight had broken out inside the bar, leading to those involved being escorted outside. During this altercation, one of the men involved retrieved a pistol. The deputy, in response, commanded the man to drop the weapon. Upon his refusal, the deputy fired at the man, striking him.
The injured man was transported to a local hospital, where he is reportedly in critical condition. An investigation into the shooting has been initiated, with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office also set to conduct their own investigation.
