The victim had suffered a gunshot wound and was promptly transported to the hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

Investigations revealed that a dark gray, four-door Cadillac was involved in the incident, with an occupant firing shots into the taco truck before fleeing the scene. Surveillance photos of the vehicle were released to the public on November 8, 2022. Thanks to community tips, Hartman was identified as a possible suspect several weeks after the shooting.
