Man riding on hood killed on North Freeway after being struck by at least one vehicle

HOUSTON – A 21-year-old man, Thiago Ortega Gamaro, has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a fatal crash that occurred around 4:35 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, on the 7500 block of North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45).

The Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division reported that the incident involved a white Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed northbound near the mentioned address. The male passenger, also 21, was riding on the hood of the car when he was ejected, landed on the ground, and was subsequently struck by one or more vehicles. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Ortega Gamaro, the driver of the Honda, was determined to be impaired at the time of the crash. He has been arrested and charged in Harris County Criminal Court #6 for his involvement in the incident.
