ATASCOCITA, TX – The Atascocita Fire Department extended a special thank you to Partnership Lake Houston for recognizing Captain Justin Petty’s recent heroic efforts at the First Responder Appreciation Luncheon.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, Captain Petty, a 15-year veteran of the Atascocita Fire Department, was attending an off-duty event with his family when he heard a scream for help near the front of the bleachers. Acting without hesitation, Captain Petty rushed to the scene, where he found a person in distress. Along with a few other bystanders, he began to render aid. One bystander retrieved an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) while Captain Petty assessed the individual, who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Captain Petty immediately initiated CPR as emergency services were called. He and the other rescuers continued their life-saving efforts until emergency responders arrived. The individual was transported to the hospital and underwent immediate surgery. Within six days, the person was out of the hospital and recovering well.
According to EMS responders and the hospital’s emergency department staff, the individual experienced a significant cardiac event and survived thanks to Captain Petty’s quick and decisive actions. The
Atascocita Fire Department expressed immense pride in Captain Petty, stating that he exemplifies the character and qualities of their team members.
