Suspect fatally shot by officers in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in Southeast Houston in the 31000 block of Corksie Street.

The incident began just after 2:30 a.m. when Southeast Division officers, responding to a separate call, heard gunfire in the area. Officers broadcasted the gunfire report and moved toward the area to ensure public safety. Upon arriving, they observed a vehicle with a broken window and a male nearby. When questioned, the male produced a weapon and fired at the officers.

Two officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. First aid was administered before Houston Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

During a search of the area, officers discovered another male with gunshot wounds a few houses away from the initial shooting location. Despite first aid efforts, this individual was also pronounced deceased at the scene by HFD.

The connection between the two shootings remains under investigation. Both officers involved are four-year veterans assigned to the Southeast Division and have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy.

A semi-automatic weapon was recovered from the scene. Both the suspect involved in the officer-involved shooting and the second deceased individual are Black males.

The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division, Crime Scene Unit, Internal Affairs, and the District Attorney’s Office are conducting investigations. Body-worn camera footage will be released within 30 days as part of department policy.
