Driver charged with intoxication manslaughter after killing child in Harris County crash

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Joel Enrique Gonzalez Chacin is facing felony intoxication manslaughter charges after causing a crash that killed a child and also hospitalized the driver of the vehicle the child was in.

According to Constable Mark Herman, the crash occurred early Sunday morning in the 10900 block of Bammel North Houston Road. Investigators determined that Gonzalez Chacin, who displayed signs of intoxication at the scene, collided with another vehicle.

The child who was a passenger in the other vehicle was later pronounced deceased at a hospital. The other driver was hospitalized as well. Gonzalez Chacin was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Gonzalez Chacin is currently in custody at the Harris County Jail, with bond set at $150,000. His first court appearance is scheduled for December 3, 2024, in Harris County District Court No. 232.
