FAYETTEVILLE, AR – The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred September 7, 2025, at an apartment complex in the 300 block of North Garnet Court.
Fayetteville police responded around noon to reports of a gunshot. While attempting to contact occupants, additional shots were fired from inside the apartment toward officers. The subject inside, identified as 42-year-old Brandon Poulter of Fayetteville, continued firing, including at an armored vehicle.
Fayetteville officers returned fire, striking Poulter. Officers entered the apartment and found him deceased. His body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for cause and manner of death determination.
The Fayetteville Police Department will conduct an internal investigation into departmental policies and procedures. ASP special agents will present their findings to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office for review of the use of lethal force.
No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
