HOUSTON, TX – Local activists, led by Quanell X and Dr. Matthews, held a press conference and protest outside Houston Police Department headquarters regarding officer Ashley Gonzalez.
During the event, speakers demanded the immediate termination of Ashley Gonzalez, citing a video rant they described as offensive and unacceptable. They stated opposition to any option allowing resignation instead of firing and called on department leadership to take decisive action.
Activists warned that allowing resignation could enable Gonzalez to seek employment at another agency and described it as a pattern that allows misconduct to go unaddressed. They also called for her state license to be revoked.
Speakers urged the Houston Police Officers’ Union to decline representation if Gonzalez appeals any termination and called for every case involving her, particularly those involving African American individuals, to be reopened and reviewed.
They also requested that the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Public Integrity Division investigate Gonzalez’s prior cases and called for a federal investigation into internal communications and conduct within the department.
Community members and advocates spoke during the event, expressing concerns about policing practices, accountability, and community relations, and encouraged individuals who believe they were impacted by Gonzalez’s actions to file complaints with federal and local agencies.
The public was invited to attend the event.
