HCSO SWAT takes man into custody after pointing a gun at mothers head on Mother’s Day

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A man accused of pointing a handgun at his mother’s head on Mother’s Day was taken into custody following a lengthy SWAT standoff at a home in Harris County.

The incident began around 6:30 p.m. at a residence in the 1400 block of Stevenage Lane. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies responded to a family disturbance call and met a woman in her early 70s outside the residence. Deputies said the woman reported that her 43-year-old son had pointed a gun at her head earlier in the day and had locked her out of the house.

Deputies contacted the District Attorney’s Office and obtained charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving family violence.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to communicate with the man, but he refused contact with law enforcement. SWAT was activated around 10 p.m., and crisis negotiators attempted multiple times to convince him to surrender.

During the standoff, deputies said the man was seen walking around inside the residence and at one point pointed a handgun at one of the department’s drones.

After communication attempts failed, SWAT deployed chemical munitions and OC gas into the residence. Deputies said the man appeared to be under the influence and became partially incapacitated while lying on a stairwell inside the home.

SWAT deputies breached the front door and took the man into custody without further incident. He was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the man had no known criminal history other than minor traffic violations, and deputies had not previously responded to the residence.
