HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police Department officers raided Lucky J Social Club in west Houston after an investigation into alleged illegal gambling operations at the business.

The investigation centered around the club located in the 9300 block of Richmond. According to police, residents in the area had complained for several months about suspected illegal gambling and other activity taking place at the location.
Police said the complaints were forwarded to officers with the Midwest Differential Response Team, which handles quality-of-life issues including illegal gambling operations and businesses operating without permits.
According to police, undercover investigators with the vice division visited the club multiple times and determined illegal gambling was taking place inside. Investigators later obtained search and arrest warrants for the business.
Police said the Houston Police Department SWAT team assisted in serving the warrants because the business typically kept its doors locked and had armed security on site.
Authorities said approximately 80 to 90 people were inside the club when officers entered. The warrant was served without incident and no injuries were reported.
Police said four to five people believed to be employees operating the gambling business were taken into custody. Vice investigators remained at the scene conducting follow-up investigations and seizing gambling paraphernalia and money believed to be connected to the operation.
According to police, the operation involved gaming tables and card games rather than slot-style machines. Investigators also observed chips and a cashier booth where money was allegedly exchanged for chips.
Police described Lucky J Social Club as appearing to operate as a social club with gambling activities, food service, and a banquet hall located toward the rear of the property.
