Wanted suspect found dead after barricading himself inside southeast Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON, TX – A wanted suspect was found dead after barricading himself inside an apartment in southeast Houston while members of a U.S. Marshals task force attempted to serve a warrant.

The incident started around 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Redford.

Members of the Gulf Coast Task Force, which is part of the U.S. Marshals Service, were serving a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The warrant is believed to have originated from the Friendswood Police Department, and Harris County Precinct 2 constables were assisting.

According to officials, when officers made entry into the apartment, the suspect retreated to the back of the unit and barricaded himself. Additional patrol officers and patrol support units responded to assist with securing the scene.

The Houston Police Department SWAT team was called to the scene after officers were unable to make contact with the suspect. SWAT later entered the apartment and found the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Residents were later allowed back into the apartment complex.

The Houston Police Department Homicide Special Investigations Unit is conducting an in-custody death investigation in coordination with federal authorities.

The warrant is believed to involve an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving a family member.
