HOUSTON — A 50-year-old man was killed and a younger man was wounded after they tracked down a stolen truck and confronted two suspects Saturday afternoon in north Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were initially dispatched around 2:03 p.m. to the 11800 block of Tidwell Road following an aggravated robbery. Investigators said a man was at a gas station when a male suspect approached him, asked questions about his blue Chevrolet Silverado, then produced a firearm and stole the truck.
According to authorities, the victim was able to track the stolen vehicle using a GPS tracking system that provided live location updates. The victim informed his father and a friend, who helped locate the truck near Airline Drive and Loop 610.
Investigators said a collision occurred involving the stolen Silverado and the pursuing parties. Following the crash, two suspects described as a Black male and Black female fled toward a nearby Chevron gas station.
Authorities said the victim’s father and friend chased the suspects on foot. During the pursuit, the male suspect allegedly produced a firearm and fired multiple shots, striking both men.
The father, described by investigators as a Hispanic male approximately 50 years old, and the friend were transported to a hospital. The father later died from his injuries. The friend, believed to be between 24 and 25 years old, suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and is expected to survive.
Investigators said the suspects later fled in a dark-colored pickup truck believed to be associated with them.
A Metro employee who witnessed the incident was not injured, although a projectile struck her vehicle, according to authorities.
Detectives said surveillance video from the gas station has been obtained and is being reviewed. Several individuals were detained as investigators worked to determine their involvement.
No arrests had been announced as of the briefing, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
