KATY, Texas — A 76-year-old woman died after a Tesla crashed into her home Friday evening in the 21300 block of Rose Hollow Lane, according to investigators.

The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable’s Office, Community Fire Department and Harris County ESD 48 responded to the crash at about 8 p.m.
Investigators said a Tesla failed to turn right at the intersection of Blooming Park and Rose Hollow and was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed directly into the residence.
The vehicle entered the front room of the home, where the 76-year-old woman was standing. She was struck by the vehicle and transported to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities are evaluating what caused the vehicle to fail to control its speed before the crash.
The driver, identified as a 44-year-old man, was transported to a hospital and is cooperating with investigators.
Investigators are also examining whether Tesla’s Autopilot system played any role in the crash. Authorities said they have spoken with individuals familiar with Tesla vehicles and are working with the driver as part of the investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities attempt to determine what role the driver’s control of the vehicle may have played in the crash.
