Grandmother raises concerns over deep sinkhole on Douglas Street in Canton

CANTON, Miss. — A grandmother on Douglas Street in Canton says a deep sinkhole in her yard has remained unresolved for several years and continues to pose a safety concern for her family and neighbors.

According to the resident, the hole has been present for approximately two to three years. She said she has contacted city officials and local news outlets multiple times but has not seen the issue addressed.

The resident described the hole as extremely deep, stating that she and her grandson used a long stick to try to determine its depth, but the stick disappeared into the opening. She also said her grandson lost a shoe in the hole.

Fearing someone could be injured, the resident has covered the opening with a large concrete brick as a temporary measure.

She expressed concern that the sinkhole could endanger children, including her grandchildren, and is calling for the issue to be investigated and repaired.
