12-year-old girl calls 911 after discovering mother dead in apparent murder-suicide

TOMBALL, TX – A 12-year-old girl called 911 late Thursday night after finding her mother unresponsive inside a home in the 12500 block of Baldwin Springs, where investigators say two adults were found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assigned to a Harris County Precinct 4 contract responded shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday to an in-progress call from the juvenile, who reported that her mother was unresponsive.

When deputies and EMS arrived, they located the unharmed 12-year-old outside the home. Inside, first responders found an adult woman deceased. In another room, they discovered an adult man who was also deceased. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and neither was transported to a hospital.

Homicide Sgt. Michael Ritchie said investigators believe the case appears to be an isolated domestic incident and is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide.

Investigators are working to establish a timeline and are canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance video and witnesses who may have heard or seen anything suspicious. Authorities said there is currently a gap in the timeline they are trying to account for.

The identities of the victims have not been released, and investigators are not yet confirming the cause or manner of death. Ritchie said at least one weapon was recovered from the home but declined to specify the type of weapon or how the victims died.

According to investigators, the deceased man and woman were believed to have been married or living together in a common-law relationship. The 12-year-old girl is believed to be the biological daughter of the woman and the stepdaughter of the deceased man.

Authorities said they are also looking into whether there was any history of domestic violence or previous calls for service at the residence. Because the area is patrolled under a Harris County Precinct 4 contract, investigators said they do not yet know whether there had been prior law enforcement responses to the home.

The sheriff’s office emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public, saying the incident appears to have been confined to the home.
