HOUSTON – An man is dead and another man is in custody following a late-night shooting at a residence in Houston’s Boulevard Oaks neighborhood.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers with the South Central Division responded to a shooting call at about 11:55 p.m. in the 1600 block of Vassar Street. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased a short time later.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect and the victim lived together at the residence and were friends. Police say something transpired between the two before the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim once in the chest.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
