HOUSTON – A Harris County Justice Court has ruled in favor of Tanigo Walker following a judge trial in a lawsuit filed by Verna Caddie stemming from a dispute over a planned Miami honorary graduation ceremony.

According to the court’s judgment, the case was tried on April 7, 2026, in Harris County Justice Court, Precinct 4, Place 2. After hearing the evidence and arguments presented by both parties, the court ordered that Caddie recover nothing from Walker, discharged Walker from the claims, and assessed court costs against Caddie.
The lawsuit arose from events surrounding the September 2025 Miami honorary graduation ceremony hosted by Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University. According to court filings, Caddie alleged that Walker, Stormy Wellington, and several other graduates withdrew from the event on the morning of the scheduled ceremony. Caddie claimed the withdrawals caused her to lose thousands of dollars because she remained responsible for hotel rooms and other event-related expenses.

Court filings further alleged that after participants withdrew, some disputed their payments with their financial institutions and prospective sponsors associated with those participants also withdrew their support, which Caddie claimed contributed to her financial losses.
Walker denied Caddie’s allegations and filed a counterclaim seeking $10,000 in damages. In her filing, Walker alleged she was initially sent an incorrect $5,000 registration link before receiving a revised $2,500 registration link. She also alleged she began questioning the value of the $2,500 registration fee after event emails promoted the filming of Love & Hip Hop Miami, solicited additional sponsorships and payments, and advised attendees that the graduation dinner would consist of chicken, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Walker sought reimbursement for her payment, travel expenses, and other alleged damages.

According to the final disposition of the case, Walker’s counterclaim was also dismissed, leaving neither party with a monetary recovery. Under the final judgment, Caddie recovered nothing on her claims against Walker, Walker recovered nothing on her counterclaim, and court costs were assessed against Caddie.
This judgment comes amid a Shade Room investigation into Verna Caddie giving out honorary doctorate degrees.
Her accreditation remains under investigation.
