Innocent juvenile injured in shooting near Discovery Green during fight involving adult men

HOUSTON — An innocent juvenile was injured in a shooting that erupted during a fight involving a group of adult men near Discovery Green late Friday night.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting was reported around 9:50 p.m. near Leland Street and Austin Street. Undercover officers were already in the area when the gunfire broke out.

Police said approximately 100 juveniles were gathered nearby when a fight involving several adult men began. During the altercation, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and started shooting as the crowd dispersed.

The innocent juvenile was struck in the armpit and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from the area and working to obtain a better description of the suspect involved in the shooting.

Police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
