SWAT called after man allegedly headbutted woman he was dating and barricaded himself in home

HOUSTON – A man barricaded himself inside a residence after allegedly assaulting a woman in a dating violence incident early Saturday, prompting a SWAT response in north Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded around 2 a.m. to the 400 block of Briarcliff after a caller reported witnessing a man assaulting a woman.

When officers arrived, they determined the woman and the suspect were in a dating relationship. Police said the suspect went inside the residence and refused to come outside.

Patrol Support officers established a perimeter around the home and attempted to persuade the suspect to surrender, but he refused to exit. Authorities said the suspect is known to have firearms, and a SWAT team was called to the scene to assist with taking him into custody.

Police obtained an arrest warrant charging the suspect with family violence assault.

Investigators said the woman was headbutted in the nose and is believed to have suffered a broken nose. She was bleeding from her nose but was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said the incident was isolated and there was no danger to nearby residents. Officers remained at the scene with the residence surrounded while the suspect was still inside.
