HOUSTON, TX– A driver was killed after a pickup truck crashed into a concrete barrier and caught fire on U.S. 290 inbound near the Interstate 610 and Interstate 10 split around 9:45 p.m. earlier tonight.
Houston police said the older-model Dodge pickup struck the median barrier. Speed may have been a factor in the crash.
Houston firefighters extinguished the fire, but the driver, who was trapped inside, could not be saved. No other occupants were inside the pickup.
Investigators found a fuel canister in the truck bed that may have contributed to the fire. The driver has not been identified, and the vehicle’s license plate and other identifying information were damaged in the fire.
