HOUSTON, TX – A man accused of assaulting his pregnant wife was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff in southwest Houston.
Authorities responded around 6:20 p.m. to the 10600 block of Sandpiper after the married couple began arguing inside their residence.
The man allegedly choked the woman, threw her to the ground, bit both of her arms and headbutted her. He also allegedly kicked the woman, who is three months pregnant, in the stomach.
The woman escaped, and a neighbor called 911. Officers stopped the man from leaving through the back door, prompting him to retreat inside and refuse repeated commands to surrender.
SWAT officers obtained a warrant and took the man into custody. His friend and mother, who is in her 70s, were also inside the residence.
No injuries were reported during the standoff. The woman had bite marks on both arms and bruising around her neck. She was evaluated at the scene but declined transportation to a hospital.
The man is expected to be charged with family assault.
