Driver killed after Porsche goes airborne and strikes pole on South Loop

HOUSTON, TX — A driver was killed after a white Porsche coupe went airborne and struck a pole in the 2500 block of South Loop West around 1:12 a.m. Sunday morning.

Investigators said the Porsche exited the main lanes at Kirby Drive and continued traveling at a high rate of speed on the feeder road. The driver lost control, struck a curb and went airborne before crashing into a pole in front of Pappasito’s Cantina.

The driver was the only apparent occupant of the Porsche and has not been identified. Speed was believed to be a factor. Investigators had not determined whether intoxication contributed to the crash.

Downed lines were stretched across the westbound and eastbound main lanes of the South Loop. All main lanes were temporarily closed while CenterPoint worked to remove the lines.
