HOUSTON, TX — A man died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Cullen Road and Bellfort Avenue.

Investigators said the man was crossing Cullen Road outside a crosswalk and walking in an active lane of traffic when a northbound vehicle struck him around 9:46 p.m.

The pedestrian was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died despite life-saving measures.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was found to be intoxicated and arrested on a DWI charge.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and determining whether speed or other factors contributed to the crash. The charge could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter as the investigation continues.
