HOUSTON — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Rafael Martinez Jr., 19.

Houston police identified the suspect as Eddie Lopez Jr. He is charged in the 185th Criminal District Court.

Officers responded about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 9 to 103 Glenborough Drive after receiving a report of a shooting on the inbound lanes of the North Freeway at the Greens Road exit.

Officers were flagged down by occupants of a vehicle that had been fired upon. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Martinez to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased Aug. 10.

The investigation led detectives to identify Lopez as the suspect. He was arrested Sept. 15 by the Houston Police Department’s Special Response Team and the Eastside Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team.
