HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Jeremy Porter has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 5-year-old Zah’Layah Walter.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Porter was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. The shooting occurred Sept. 19 on Grant Road near Jones Road.

Zah’Layah’s mother was driving westbound on Grant Road with five children younger than 10 inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred. Zah’Layah was struck by gunfire and flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Two other children were injured by shattered glass. The mother was not injured.
