HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Flock cameras helped investigators locate a white Ford pickup allegedly involved in the roadway shooting that killed 5-year-old Zah’Layah Walter.

According to court documents, Zah’Layah’s mother was driving on Grant Road when she heard the rear driver-side window shatter. She saw a white Ford pickup nearby before it sped away.

The mother called 911 and discovered Zah’Layah had been shot in the head. She applied pressure to the wound while waiting for emergency crews. Zah’Layah was flown to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Investigators found four bullet defects in the family’s vehicle. The mother and another witness reported seeing no one in the pickup’s passenger seat.

Flock cameras were used to locate the Ford at a residence. Investigators identified Jeremy Porter as the driver based on previous encounters involving the vehicle.

Officers later conducted a traffic stop and interviewed Porter after advising him of his rights. Porter allegedly admitted driving on Grant Road and firing five rounds toward another vehicle he believed had fired at him and was being driven erratically.

Porter reportedly told investigators the other vehicle was driven by a man and had several occupants.

Porter has been charged with capital murder and booked into the Harris County Jail.
