HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man was critically injured after being shot by a Harris County sheriff’s deputy inside her neighbor’s home in the 7200 block of Rio Blanco Drive.

According to HCSO, the deputy reported that her neighbor was out of town and she checked the house because she believed it was being burglarized. The deputy found a man inside and held him at gunpoint.

The deputy told investigators the man allegedly attempted to disarm her when she confronted him. She then shot him in the upper body.

Deputies responded around 5:10 p.m. and provided medical aid before the man was flown by Life Flight to a hospital. He remained in critical condition.

The deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

The HCSO Homicide Unit, crime scene investigators and Internal Affairs Division are investigating. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, and the findings will be presented to a grand jury.
