HOUSTON, TX – A man in his mid-20s died after suffering a cut to his shoulder during an altercation at the Heights at 1520 Apartments. Houston police said his girlfriend, also in her mid-20s, was hospitalized with a cut to her wrist.

Police were told the woman had been at a bar with a friend before returning to the apartment, where the man was waiting after work. The two got into a disagreement, police said.

The man ran from the apartment into the parking garage. The woman remained inside and was on the phone with her mother, saying she was thinking about killing herself, according to police. Officers entered the apartment and took her into custody without further harm.

Houston firefighters took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased after significant blood loss. Police said the woman was stable.

Police said they had been told of a history of family violence but did not know the details. Investigators had not determined who caused either injury or identified a suspect.
