HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A Harris County judge dismissed Aisha Shahid’s motion to hold one of Dr. Matthews’ security guards, Amun Tekala Imhotep, in contempt of a temporary protective order. Dr. Matthews said Imhotep had not been properly served with the contempt proceeding.

In a filing in the 280th District Court, Shahid alleged that Imhotep violated the temporary order seven times between July 16 and Aug. 28. She sought contempt findings and sanctions that could include fines or confinement. Those allegations have not been proven true.

Imhotep’s attorney, Adjua Umoja-Justice, argued that he had not been personally served with a court-issued order requiring him to answer the accusations. Dr. Matthews said the court dismissed the contempt matter. The copy of the proposed order provided to Houston Stringer is unsigned and does not show the judge’s selected ruling; Houston Stringer was informed that the judge signed the dismissal order.

Shahid’s protective-order case is expected to return to court Sept. 29, according to Dr. Matthews and Umoja-Justice. The dismissal concerns the contempt motion, not the upcoming protective-order proceeding.

Shahid was charged with misdemeanor terroristic threat after a June confrontation with Dr. Matthews at a restaurant on Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston Stringer previously reported. That charge is separate from the protective-order case and remains an allegation.

Dr. Matthews has also criticized Judge Curvey’s handling of protective-order matters involving her. At a Sept. 10 news conference, Dr. Matthews said an initial case ended in a nonsuit and five later applications were dismissed by other judges after Curvey was removed from handling matters involving her.
