Harris County deputy shot before suspect steals patrol vehicle

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County sheriff’s deputy was shot earlier this evening before a suspect allegedly stole his patrol vehicle and fled. According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the deputy responded to a family disturbance after a call came in around 6:30 p.m.

Authorities are searching for Chase Layne Patin in connection with the shooting in the 1100 block of Bayou Drive near the East Freeway in east Harris County. Patin is described as a white man wearing a black cap and gray shirt.

The deputy was struck in the lower half of his body and transported to a hospital. Gonzalez said during the briefing that the deputy was in fair condition and remained hospitalized.

The patrol vehicle was found soon afterward near the East Freeway, not far from the shooting scene. Multiple agencies were assisting with the search.

Residents are urged to avoid the affected areas and remain vigilant. Anyone who sees Patin should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.

Details about the initial disturbance and the interaction that led to the shooting were still being gathered. The deputy’s name was not provided during the briefing.
