A man who regularly feeds homeless people was fatally shot during an apparent attempted carjacking early this morning. The call reporting shots fired came in at 2:18 a.m in the 2000 block S Texas 6 in west Houston.

According to police, a witness reported that the man was feeding homeless people in the area this morning when a suspect confronted him and asked for money. The encounter escalated, and the suspect allegedly tried to take the man’s vehicle at gunpoint.

The man tried to speed away, but the suspect allegedly shot him. His vehicle crashed into a fence, where it stopped. Officers found him deceased at the scene. He appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old.

The suspect fled on foot before officers located and detained him. The 30-year-old suspect was taken to a local hospital with minor scrapes on his arms.
