HOUSTON — A man died after being struck by a pickup truck following an altercation that began inside a car in the 6200 block of Parker Road, according to Houston police.
Northeast patrol officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash around 1 a.m. Houston firefighters transported the man to HCA Kingwood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said preliminary information indicated a white Toyota Camry had a female driver and two male passengers in their early 20s. They were returning from a pool party or gathering where alcohol and possible drug use were reported.
An altercation began between the two men in the back seat, police said. A rear door opened while the car was moving, and one of the men appeared to be trying to exit while the other tried to get him back inside.
The men ended up in the street during a verbal, possibly physical confrontation. A black Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the opposite direction struck one of them.
The pickup driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said a field sobriety test determined he was not intoxicated. No charges were being sought at the time of the briefing.
Investigators had not determined fault, what prompted the argument or exactly where the men were in the roadway. Police said they were working through conflicting witness statements.
The road was very dark, and some streetlights appeared to be out, police said. Investigators were examining whether lighting contributed to the crash.
