Stolen vehicle crashes into southeast Houston business during pursuit, injuring two patrons

HOUSTON — A driver in a stolen vehicle crashed into a business and struck two patrons while fleeing an officer in southeast Houston, police said.

An officer located the vehicle, checked its license plate and confirmed it had been reported stolen earlier that day. The officer attempted a traffic stop in the 9700 block of Scott Street, but the driver fled.

Police said the driver traveled down a back street before heading north on Scott for roughly a mile, losing control and crashing into the business. The vehicle also struck an unoccupied vehicle parked outside.

Two patrons inside the business suffered minor lacerations and were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, remained inside when officers arrived and was taken to a hospital with superficial lacerations.

The stolen vehicle caught fire after the crash. Houston firefighters extinguished the flames.

Police said the driver was being arrested for felony evading in a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and reckless driving.
