Rescuers work overnight after several dozen dogs reportedly dumped in northeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Animal rescuers worked through the night to catch several dozen dogs reportedly dumped near Shady Lane Park in northeast Houston.

A resident contacted Grizzy’s Hood News after noticing the dogs along a street in the area.

Danna Fullen, an independent rescuer, said rescuers spent hours using traps and catching dogs by hand. The group included male and female dogs, puppies and older dogs. Many were of breeding age, she said.

Fullen said a dead dog was also found in a black trash bag and appeared to have been there for some time. She described the location as an area where people have dumped dogs, cats and other animals.

Some dogs remained uncaught. Fullen said BARC, Houston’s animal shelter, was expected to send trucks the following morning to collect the remaining dogs and would take in most of them.

Fullen encouraged residents to report stray animals and help only when they could do so safely.

Residents can report stray dogs by calling 311.
