Juvenile suspect surrenders after officer fires shot during chase in SW Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Officers responded to an officer-involved shooting Friday night after a juvenile suspect displayed a firearm while fleeing from police. No officers or suspects were injured.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers located a stolen vehicle that had been involved in a hit-and-run accident earlier in the day. The victim of the hit-and-run reported that individuals inside the vehicle had displayed firearms.

Officers followed the vehicle to the 11900 block of Oakmoor Street, where marked units initiated a traffic stop at approximately 9:05 p.m. to take the occupants into custody. There were five individuals inside the vehicle. Two were taken into custody immediately, while three others fled on foot.

During the chase, a juvenile suspect ran toward Airport Boulevard while displaying a firearm, prompting an officer to discharge his weapon at least once. The suspect was not struck by gunfire, dropped the firearm, and surrendered to officers.

A K-9 unit was deployed, leading to the apprehension of the two remaining suspects in a nearby newly constructed townhome area. One suspect sustained a minor injury from contact with the K-9 unit. No other injuries were reported.

Officers confirmed that body-worn camera footage captured the suspect displaying a firearm. The footage will be processed and released within 30 days per department policy.
