Marquel Wiley charged with capital murder in Essex Boulevard shooting

HUNTSVILLE, TX – Marquel Wiley has been charged with capital murder in connection with a shooting that occurred on Essex Boulevard on the morning of Aug. 13, 2025.

Responding officers discovered two victims at the scene. One victim was pronounced deceased, and the other was transported by life flight for treatment of serious injuries. Wiley fled the scene on foot through a wooded area from Essex Boulevard toward FM 2821 before being taken into custody.

As the situation unfolded, Huntsville Police Department School Resource Officers and Huntsville ISD Administration were notified. Huntsville Elementary, Huntsville High School, and several other district facilities in close proximity were placed on Secure status. Huntsville Elementary was briefly placed on lockdown before the status was quickly changed to Secure.

Chief Slaven expressed gratitude to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, Walker County EMS, and the Huntsville Fire Department for their assistance in apprehending Wiley.
