Suspect charged in fatal stabbing of 77-year-old man in east Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man found at 123 North Drennan Street about 5:55 a.m. on Aug. 7.

According to the Houston Police Department, Aaron Bartholomew Sheehan, 40, is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court in connection with the death of Anival Elvir Ortiz, 77.

HPD stated that officers responded to a stabbing call at the address and learned Elvir Ortiz had been wounded. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators determined Elvir Ortiz was riding his bike to work on a nearby trail when Sheehan allegedly came out from behind a fence and stabbed him. The victim was able to reach his workplace, where co-workers called 911.

Detectives, working with the Metro Police Department, identified a suspect seen boarding a Metro transit shortly after the incident. Surveillance video of the suspect was released on Aug. 8. Further investigation identified Sheehan as the suspect, and on Aug. 12, HPD’s SWAT Team took him into custody. He was charged by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and booked into the Harris County Jail.
