Child shot multiple times while playing ‘ding dong ditch’ game in northeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX – Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was shot while playing a game of “ding dong ditch” in northeast Houston.

The shooting occurred around 10:55 p.m. Saturday, August 30, in the 9700 block of Racine Street near Mimbrough. According to investigators, the child and several friends were ringing doorbells of homes in the area and running away. A witness reported the boy was running from a house after ringing a doorbell when shots were fired.

The juvenile male, initially reported as 10 years old, was transported by the Houston Fire Department to a local hospital in critical condition. Doctors pronounced him deceased on August 31. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officers detained one person at the scene for questioning. That individual was questioned and released. Detectives with the HPD Homicide Division are continuing to gather information as the investigation remains ongoing.
