HOUSTON, TX – A second suspect has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man and the wounding of another male at 5410 North Braeswood Boulevard on May 24.

The suspect, Miles Julian Edwards, 19, is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 339th Criminal District Court. Another suspect, Zion Armon Mitchell, 18, is also charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 482nd and 183rd Criminal District Courts.
The victim is identified as Kenneth Leaks, 18.
According to the Houston Police Department Homicide Division, officers responded to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital after Leaks was transported by private vehicle with a gunshot wound. The shooting was reported to have occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the North Braeswood location.
Witnesses told investigators Leaks was meeting an individual for a transaction when he was approached by several males. During the encounter, one suspect fired a gun, striking Leaks at least once. A 17-year-old male was also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Mitchell was arrested June 16 by HPD Southeast Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team and booked into the Harris County Jail. Edwards was arrested August 28 by the same division and has since been charged and booked into jail.
