SMYRNA, DE – Delaware State Police have identified 59-year-old Joseph Laclair of Clayton as the man who died in a motorcycle crash Friday morning in Smyrna.

On Sept. 5, 2025, at about 4:16 a.m., a Yamaha X1A was traveling eastbound on Smyrna-Leipsic Road, east of Big Oak Road, when it failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The motorcycle entered a ditch, struck a culvert pipe, and the driver was ejected.
Laclair was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Smyrna-Leipsic Road was closed for several hours while troopers investigated and cleared the scene.
