Arkansas inmate found dead at Cummins Unit; homicide investigation underway

GOULD, AR – Special Agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the death of an inmate at the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) Cummins Unit.

Joseph Fairchild, 21, was found non-responsive during a security check at approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, September 11. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Fairchild was serving a sentence for First-Degree Battery out of Pulaski County.

A 25-year-old inmate who shared a cell with Fairchild has been identified as a suspect in the case.

Fairchild’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the manner and cause of death.
